Blue Cheese Gougères
May 21, 2012 § 22 Comments
As the end of the school year comes closer and closer, I begin to savor Saturday and Sunday more and more. Lately I’ve been trying to make the most of my weekends, which usually means I’m in the kitchen less hence my sporadic posting as of late.
This weekend I was with my friend, Brooke, for the majority of Friday and Saturday doing Relay for Life. It was a bunch of fun but, boy, was I tired afterwards! Sunday I was completely free so I made sure to dedicate it to me, myself, and I. Well, kinda. I had to do some homework and chores, but after that I was free to relax and doing some baking for Secret Recipe Club!
This will be my third time participating in SRC and I absolutely love it. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that it’s one of my favorite parts of every month.
This month I was paired up with Liz from That Skinny Chick Can Bake and I was beyond thrilled to be paired up with another baking blog. Immedaitely upon recieving my assignment I began searching through Liz’s archives for something to strike my eye. Bad idea. I must have spent a a few hours deciding because there were just so many things that I wanted to make!
Eventually I decided on the Blue Cheese Gougères for three reasons.
- I love blue cheese.
- I had never had a gougère before and was curious!
- Fellow bloggers were raving about them in the comments section so I figured they must be good!
And good they were! Actually, they were out-of-this-world amazing! My photos cannot do them justice – they are little bites of heaven. HEAVEN, I say! They are soft and fluffy and so flavorful you wouldn’t believe that they’re only seasoned with salt and pepper.
I think I’ll be making these every week…or at least for every special occassion. I’m obsessed! Thanks for an AWESOME recipe, Liz!

Those look wonderful. So glad you used a blue cheese – the flavour must be intense
It is flavorful, but the usual sharpness/bitterness of the blue cheese isn’t that strong. A good thing, in my opinion!
Yes, perhaps it is!
Wow, those sound really flavorful! I’m not generally a big blue cheese fan, but I might be tempted with these!
They really are flavorful! I cannot put into words how much I think everyone needs to make them!
These look delish! Well done! I also love bleu cheese
These look great! I have a love/hate relationship with bleu cheese sometimes, but these look great
Oh, you are so sweet, Erika! I’m so glad you tried these gougeres…and I’m always a little relieved when a SRC member assigned to my blog actually likes what they try
I started making cream puffs when I was your age or younger, so I’m glad you now have the technique in your repertoire! They look perfect!!!
Thanks again for a great recipe, Liz! Now I want to make some cream puffs – haha!
Excellent choice for SRC…isn’t Liz the BEST?!?!? I’ve actually met her in person, and she’s a doll! I love gougeres…never made them with blue cheese before, though. Great pick for SRC…glad to be in Group C with you!!
I’m old enough to be your grandma, er I mean mom, and just made my first gourgeres through SRC last month or the one before?? Sheesh, my memory is going…They are little bites of heaven, I made mine with rosemary and roasted garlic, but I loooooove blue cheese so now I will have to (twist my arm) make blue cheese ones.
I love gougeres, and I can’t wait to try these! Yum! They look beautiful!
Ohhhh yum! Anything that comes from Lizzy’s kitchen is amazing! Great pick and delicious looking recipe!
These look delicious! I’ll have to give these a try soon because I’ve never had a gougere before, much less baked one
Nice selection! This looks and sounds like a wonderful combinations of flavors. Glad to part of SRC group C with you.
These sound like such a great idea, but I think I would swap out the blue cheese for cheddar or goat’s cheese
We make ours with maple smoked gouda but you may have turned us on to the bleu cheese!
These freeze really well too. I use parmesan a lot of the time C:
sounds yummy
I am taking notes from all the comments you’ve gotton, I’ve done churros and cream puffs, but never gougeres, and the technique is the same. I need to try some out soon!
